As you will be aware, the Government has recently relaxed the regulations a little to allow churches to be opened for private prayer and the bishops have issued guidance on how this might safely be done.
Accordingly I am pleased to let you know that with effect from Wednesday 24th June, St Mary’s, will be open for the purposes of private prayer twice a week at the following times:
Wednesday – 10am to 2pm
Saturday – 1pm to 5pm.
These timings will help us to keep the requirements for cleaning the church manageable. We will review how the arrangements are working in a few weeks time in line with any changes in government and church guidance.
Unfortunately, because of practical difficulties in adhering to current government and church guidance, I have decided in consultation with the Churchwardens that it will not presently be possible to open All Saints, Little Cornard and St Edmunds, Assington. Little Cornard churchyard will of course remain available to the public as a place for prayer and contemplation and both churchyards will remain accessible to those wishing to tend graves.
If you come to St Mary’s to pray, please will you be careful to observe the notices giving guidance for your safe use of the building. In particular, please:
- use the hand sanitiser gel which will be available at the entrance when you enter and leave the building.
- use the wooden pews and not the chairs.
- avoid areas which are cordoned off (the rear of the church and the prayer corner)
Someone will be present in church to offer pastoral support if requested.
On the table at the entrance to the church you will find some printed prayer materials which you may find helpful. If you use one of these, please do not leave it in church but take it with you when you leave.
If you, or anyone you know is unable for health or other reasons to enter the church but has a need for prayer to be offered on their behalf, please do contact me, Mary, Simon, or anyone from the ministry team.
It is very good news that we are now able to use one of our church buildings again, even if for limited purpose only, and we look forward to the time when we can once again worship together in person. Until then, thank you for your understanding and patience. As a Ministry Team, we are so thankful for you all and for your messages of love and care. We value the knowledge that we are prayed for and continue to pray for you.
With blessings and best wishes
‘I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of your, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus’ Philippians 1: 3
