Welcome to our Service resources for Maundy Thursday evening.

Once again, we have attached the text set out below in a PDF document.  If you are using the links in the PDF document just click the back button in the top left hand corner of your internet browser each time you reach the end of a link and it will return you to the text in the document.

Our first Bible reading this evening from John’s gospel sets the scene of Jesus’ last supper with his friends at the time of the Jewish feat of Passover.

So before our journey this week takes us to the climax of Jesus’ suffering on the cross, we thought we would open with this joyful offering from the

Israeli Philharmonic Orchestra who have managed to record a celebration of the Passover whilst isolated in their individual homes:  https://youtu.be/rT0XziWZrfU

The first part of the evening’s Service contains the opening prayers, the reading from John’s Gospel

(John 13:1-17 NRSVA &  John 13:31-35 NRSVA) , the talk and prayers:   https://youtu.be/6NLDk2EM5nA

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,

your kingdom come, your will be done,

on earth as in heaven.

Give us today our daily bread.

Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.

Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.

For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours

now and for ever.  Amen

Giving of Communion

The church of which we are members is not defined by the walls of a building but by the body of Christ of which we are members.

In making our communion spiritually, we are joining with Christians everywhere to be nourished by the one who tells us, ‘I am the bread of life’.

Thanks be to you, Lord Jesus Christ, for all the benefits you have given me,

for all the pains and insults you have borne for me.

Since I cannot now receive you sacramentally,

I ask you to come spiritually into my heart.

O most merciful redeemer, friend and brother,

may I know you more clearly, love you more dearly

and follow you more nearly, day by day.    Amen

Remember:

We are safe, we are forgiven, we have been given God’s Spirit.   We have eternal hope.  We have been given life.

Sending love to you and prayers.

God bless.

Just thought you might like to know that as these resources include Communion and some of our usual Maundy Supper elements, you may like to set aside an hour, light a candle and enjoy ‘communing’ with your church family.
