Exploring faith - ‘Is there more to life than the things that we do every day?’

Most of us at various times in our life, wonder ‘Is there more to life than the things that we do every day?’ Many people feel that something is missing in their lives, a restless feeling inside and, try as they might, they haven’t found what they’re looking for.

Trying to be a nice person or simply going to church doesn’t make you a Christian. The Christian life is primarily about a lived relationship with God through Jesus Christ and, sharing that relationship with others, seeking to deepen it and to live a life that is consistent with the teachings of Jesus.

We believe that the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ is God’s guarantee that he loves and cares for us forever.

We know that no-one is perfect and that everyone makes mistakes. We all do. But we believe God forgives us when we turn in sorrow with the desire to live differently, as we try to learn from what we have done wrong.

We don’t have all the answers. Only God does. By entering into a relationship with God, by the power of God’s Holy Spirit, we look to serve him and other people better with the new life he has given us in Jesus Christ.

Life itself now has a new meaning. No failure or disaster is ever without hope. God offers his forgiveness and love unconditionally. How we respond to that love informs our lives and actions.

Nothing can separate us from God’s love. But this isn’t an excuse for doing what we like, knowing we can get away with it. Once we know that God is ‘for us’, we open up to the gift that God wants to give us – which is a share in his own love and freedom.  We breathe with his breath – that’s part of what it means to say that we receive God’s ‘Spirit’, which helps us live more like Jesus – more ‘in tune’ with God.

If you would like to explore Christian faith, please contact us or come along on a Sunday morning. We would love to help you discover more.

Alpha Courses

With over 16.5 million people having been on an Alpha Course in 169 countries, the Alpha Course is a global phenomenon. A 10 week course, Alpha is designed for people with questions about the meaning of life and the Christian faith, as well as new Christians and anyone wanting to revisit the foundations of their faith.

Evenings are relaxed and start with a meal, followed by a short talk or video.  The course consists of a series of talks looking at topics such as ‘Who is Jesus?’ and ‘Why and how do I pray?’ After each talk we divide into small groups for a time of discussion. Alpha is a place where no question is too simple or too hostile, and it is supported by all the main Christian denominations. There is no charge for the Alpha Course, although you are welcome to make a voluntary contribution towards the cost of food.

To register for our next Alpha Course email us, or contact the church office on 01787 227407. To hear some stories of lives changed around the world by the Alpha Course click here.
